How to Increase Website Traffic without Google
By alocsin
If you can increase website traffic to your page, you increase the number of ad impressions, and ultimately, the amount of money you earn from those impressions. In addition, the more people who view your page, the more likely it is that someone will click an ad and buy the product or service it extols.
Viewers ordinarily find your page through Google. But if that search engine buries your website on page 300 of its results, no one will ever visit your writings. Fortunately, you don’t have to rely on Google for visitors

Increase Website Traffic with Forums
Forums are Internet gathering places set up for the discussion of specific topics as varied as politics, knitting, bananas or nursing. Participants can post and view messages on the forum or website. More likely, they can choose to receive any messages through email, and can conveniently respond to them with the click of the Reply button. This means that anything you post on a forum will have an automatic audience of readers.
To increase website traffic to your site without Google, post your message on a related forum.
Finding Forums
Before you can post a message, you need to find an appropriate forum. For that task, Google is a useful first step. Your page most likely relates to several subjects. For example, an article on nursing salaries relates to nursing, jobs, medical careers and employment. Enter the subject into the Google search engine with the word forum. For example, enter nursing forum. (Do this for each of your subjects.) Click the Search button reveals a list of possible forums.
Click on a forum name to display the forum website. Look for a list of discussions or subject areas, and the number of posts and views for each item on the list. You want subject areas where posts and views number in the thousands. If the forum does not have that many views, it cannot provide enough traffic for your efforts. In that case, move on to the next forum on the Google list.
If you find an appropriate subject area, click on its name to its list of messages and the number of views for each message. Again, you want an area where message views number in the thousands.
Warning
Check the FAQ for the forum to make sure it allows messages that contain links to personal websites. Many forums prohibits such links as advertising or spam. If that is the case, you need to find another forum.
- For example, Nurse.com, meets several of the criteria for number of postings in its forums, but does not allow advertising. It would not be an appropriate forum.
- On the other hand, PinoyNursing.com, designed for Filipino nurses, has the required numbers and allows links. This is the perfect forum for your message.
Posting
You’ll often need to register first in a forum. You may then have to respond to a confirming email message as well. Once you’re approved, you can create your post. Put the title of your article in the message title, and then briefly describe what your article is about. Finally, don’t forget to put a link to your site in the message.
In forums that allow signatures, you can also put a link in your signature. If you respond to other messages in the forum, or start additional threads, your website link will show up in your signature for those messages.
You’ll want to repeat this strategy of locating related forums and posting messages as often as possible. The more forums you can find for a link to your site, the more likely such a link can increase web traffic without Google.
Results
Once your page starts receiving traffic, examine the statistics. When you create additional pages that are related to the first one, concentrate your postings for those new pages in forums that produce the most hits. You’ll want to respond to any forum replies about your message to encourage discussion. This keeps your message at the top of the forum list.
Though some of my pages are popular on Google, some of my most visited creations have no visitors from that search engine. Instead, the views all come from forum postings.

Highly informative hub. You can equally use 'guest posting' to increase traffic.
This is done by submitting articles to relevant blogs and niche.
THIS is a very valuable hub. Voted up and useful! I am bookmarking it, printing it out, and putting it into action. Thank you so much for taking the time to share.
This is a good idea, but we do want to make sure that we avoid spamming the forum. Being a useful contributing member of the community is better, so you don't get banned, and your presence is adding value to the forum.
Good information and a few new ideas to try out thanks for sharing this.
Bookmarked and voted up.
Thank you all for your kind words. I hope these help you as much as they help me. Take heed of Millionaire Tips' advice. Try to be a useful member of the forum as well, so your articles are welcome. As a bonus, you can become the forum expert on your articles -- people will ask you questions, which will give you ideas for more related articles.
Very informative Hub. I think this is especially useful now that it seems like google is dominating everything. Thanks for the information, nice work! Voted UP and Useful.
interesting. I just have to find forums I like and register. Thanks
Fenn, it just goes to show that you don't have to depend on Google for hub success.
Alphagirl, that's another good strategy. Find forums that you like and write articles tailor-made for them.
Thanks for sharing! Very useful. I'm still quite new at hubbing and this helped me gain more information about how all this works! Thanks! :)
You're welcome, Dreamer08. And welcome to hubpages.
Hey alocsin you've provided some useful information on leveraging online forums to get traffic to your articles, blogs, etc. Voted up + useful!
Another method I've used in the past to generate traffic is posting answers to questions on Yahoo Answers (http://answers.yahoo.com/) and including a link to an article or blog post of mine (along with a link to an article or blog post by another author) in my answer that's related to the question. The idea is to provide a helpful response without spamming the Yahoo Answers community.
Thanks, alocsin, for the tips. I have been trying to figure out why I have a few Hub awards, but not made more than $10 since joining!!
Also, thanks to El Ray about the Yahoo Answers tip!
I did recently add a Twitter link to my profile, so hopefully that works, too.
Good suggestions!
Thanks El Ray, Chaplin and Brett for visiting my hub. I'll check that out El Ray. Sounds like a good lead.
I haven't been very good at finding forums (other than here at hubpages) even though I've looked. The forums I've found in the past seem to have very loyal visitors so I would make sure that it was another community you want to visit on a regular bases. Thanks for all the resources!
Thanks frugalfamily. Depending on your topic, an appropriate forum may indeed be difficult to find.
Thanks for the information - I never thought of posting on a forum; I usually stay away from those, but it makes sense to do as you have said in your article - great tip.
Forum posting is my main source of traffic to my hubs.
Hi Alocsin!
Thank you for writing this article. I learned a lot. I will try to adopt this new method of bringing more traffic to my hubs.
Thank you. Please let me know if it helps in any way.
This is excellent. I like all the resources you have here. This is the closest thing I have seen to a Hubpages for Dummies book! Thanks for all the help.
This Hub is very good. For some reason I forgot almost entirely about forums lol. Also, another good site to post on is Reddit.com
I'm unfamiliar with Reddit, but will check it out, polyglot.
It's a HUGE website. And no problem.
Great hub.
I too get great traffic from Reddit. But it usually falls away after 3rd day of post.
Yes, I agree. Also, for some reason it seems like the demographics of reddit has become incredibly young.
SEO is very useful to! I think I am going to write a hub about the secrets.
I think if I try Reddit, maybe I have to skew my articles to a younger set.
No.The demographic is STILL 17-30ish and all of them, for the most part are tech savcy. Furthermore, they pride themselves on using proper english and writing grammatically correct. The only issue you might have is that they are a community, with their own set of jokes and etiquette, so it might be difficult at first. But I think it is a great place to get the word out!
I'll check it out. Thanks.
Very simply written, and useful article. Excellent! Thank you so much for sharing your words of wisdom alocsin.
Thanks Fenn for stopping by.
Clear and Concise and contains some good information, i'm still learning about backlinking and SEO techniques, i will put some of this into practice thank you for sharing :D
I have already found a forum on which to advertise my articles. Thank you so much for the idea!
Jennifer
Glad to hear that dipless and JEOrtega. Let me know if these work for you.
The google Adwords was really really really helpful ha. I had no idea what a resource that would be! Did I mention it was really good!
Another source you could use is Digg. It is a social news aggregate site!
Regarding Reddit, I went and asked the community what there average age was... Check this link out http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/o5ahj/h
That makes sense. I think the reason why I think it is younger is because the community has changed a lot in the last 4 years. I joined it when Digg was still bigger, and when reddit would actually post news as opposed to reposts of memes lol. But still, it is a great source for lots of diverse people!
I visited Reddit but still not sure how it works and what it's about. I'll keep investigating.
Hi Alocsin!
I found a great forum on which to post and put my URL but my initial reception was less than friendly. I got email telling me to stop spamming and stop trying to sell people something even though the forums on this website clearly allow you to post a URL address and attach it to your posting. How do you do it? How do you attract people to your articles via the link without offending them?
Sorry you had that experience, JEOrtega. If it's any consolation, that happened to me many times when I first started doing this.
That's the article says that you have to check the FAQ of the forum closely to make sure that they allow links in messages to your personal site. Otherwise, it will be considered spam. As a secondary check, you can also look up different messages in the forum to see if they have personal links.
I've gone ahead and pulled those paragraphs out into a separate title with the word "Warning" so other people don't miss it.
Depending on the topic you're covering, it may take some effort to uncover an accepting forum. For example, I have yet to discover a police forum that allows personal links. However, many model airplane forums allow personal links.
Though finding an accepting forum takes work, the good news is once you've found it, you can post a link to all your posts with the same topic. It's important to become an active member of the forum by participating in discussions and starting threads. That way, they'll welcome all your links and even offer suggestions to you for new topics.
I've been looking for a place to link to my Filipino Nurse hubs. Thanks! ;)
You're welcome. Should be a good fit.
Excellent hub ! Keep up the great work great job !
Thank you for visiting, intriguewriter.
Where nice Hub man. Full detailed!
I'm starting to explore traffic sources outside google to increase my site's traffic. This is definitely a useful hub to me. Good job.
Let me know how the method works for you.
Great hub and a constant reminder of how important it is not to have all your "eggs" in the same basket. I also like it because it proves that while Google is a good source of website traffic, it is not the only source.
Very helpful. Yes forum is indeed a great way to get traffic and getting fantastic idea on what to write on your hub :D Voting up
I am a newbie to hubpages and need all the help I can get.
This was really helpful thank you, much appreciated.
I'm glad you're finding this useful. Let me know of your successes if you try these tips out.
I shall try the forums. I think it will do me some good. Anyway how much traffic did you get from forum?
It really depends on the article and forum. But one forum netted me about 400 hits in one day, and is still giving me from 10-20 hits a day since then.
Internet marketing is also known as digital and online marketing. Internet marketing includes designing, advertising products online and sales. It is a great way of increasing the business online. You can also do marketing through emails and wireless media http://goo.gl/jsJUa
I've had limited success with using forum signature links even on forums where I'm highly active and have a high post count and regularly contribute to the community.
Good Information to increase your website's traffic
Alocsin, great tips. Voted Up and useful.
Great informative hub. But it is sometime hard to find the related forum. If I find one that will be great. Blogs are also great to link.
Forums, eh? Great idea! I'll be checking that out as soon as my little fingers can eke out more hubs! :)
Now I have good ideas from you, alocsin -- Reddit and forums. I'm going to be busy trying them.
I also use PPC ads from Facebook. It's been adding a ton of traffic to my site.
Thanks for sharing a rather informative hub. It sure makes a lot of sense.
What are PPC Facebook ads?
I share my online articles on social network and book marking sites to drive traffic. Your ideas are wonderful. I have never tried this. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
You're a genius, Alocsin. Now, if only I had the time to visit forums! Just getting to HP is more than I can handle in a day. Whew! Blessings, Debby
alocsin, what a great idea. I've read your hubs on reddit as well. Great hubs. I voted up and useful. I am going to bookmark and use your ideas. Thanks so much. Now, if I could just get the hang of linking.
Lisa
Thank you for such a great post. I am also going to look into the forums. I could comment on every single point you made but I am just going to say I am going to use some of these tips and see how it works for me. Thank you once again. Edina Jackson
Thanks for a great hub! Once again your suggestions really help increase traffic. I have posted in forums and received lots of traffic from it. Thanks again!
Aurelio, this is interesting and useful information. BTW, do you think it would be useful to incorporate a specific referral tracker for each forum site so that one can know where the traffic is coming from the most?
Bookmarked for reference.
Voted up and useful.
That's a great idea, Rajan.
I don't know where you find the time Alocsin. I find I use up hours just commenting, replying to comments, writing and linking mine and my followers hubs socially.
The forum idea is a great one though, especially for new hubbers or those hubs that just do not seem to draw in traffic naturally.
Voted up, useful, awesome and pinned, tweeted and SHARED ;-) ... may it bring you some non-Google traffic.
Food for thought. I will definitely keep this tip in mind. Wow, so much to do! Thanks for these great tips!
Thanks for the straight forward explanation of how to use forums to boost traffic to our pages. Voted up and useful.
Great information, as always, alocsin! I have looked into a few forums before, but didn't find one that was "comfortable" for me. HubPages has spoiled me, everyone here is so nice and helpful. I really need to spend more time checking out some other forums. Thank you for the prompt. Voted up and useful! Have a wonderful day! :)
It's simple, Brett.Tesol, I work 25 hours a day ;)
simple and effective ways. Thanks for sharing.....:)
What a wonderful idea. It is so simple to do. I realize it takes time but the results must be worth it.
Getting traffic is a significant aspect of online writing. You points are useful for online writers. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.
Highly useful information. Thanks!

This is a very informative hub. I use Facebook, Google+, pinterest and sometimes redgage. I have not investigated using forums that are related to my hubs at this point. I'm bookmarking this to help me when I have a few extra minutes to check out some forums. Google is important but I think we all need to remember that it is not the only source of traffic.
