- Increase Website Traffic by Posting Links on Reddit – Part II
Continuation of a two-part series on how to post to Reddit. - Lessons of Repentance: Avoiding a Ban from Reddit
Reddit, “the front page of the Internet,” lets you add links to your sites and classify them under categories known as subreddits. Find out how to avoid Reddit bans.

If you haven’t read the introduction for this hub yet, check out How My Hub Went from Zero to 3,000 Page Views in Just Under Eight Hours. There are no guarantees as to how much your traffic will increase, but posting a link on Reddit can multiply your visitors by up to four digits. This free site bills itself as the “front page of the Internet.” It allows members in to post links to online articles, pictures, videos and other multimedia. (You don’t need a membership to view the links.)
Because Reddit values complete participation, it contains a vigorous spam checker. You need to follow a few procedures so you’re accepted as a valued site member rather than a spammer who can be banned. Be sure and read the other two parts of this article, shown on the right, before actually posting.
1. Create an account.
Go to the Register page and create a username, password and password verification. You can optionally enter your email address. (This is recommended if you want to receive certain notifications.) You then enter the capcha code and click the Create Account button. You are now a member of Reddit.
2. Read the FAQ and Reddiquette.
As with any site, Reddit has specific rules and customs, which you need to follow if you want to experience the best results. Check them out in FAQ and Reddiquette at the bottom of the site page.
3. Search for subreddits.
Never post a link at the main Reddit page or your message will get lost among thousands of other postings . Instead, you need to find the appropriate forum, known as a “subreddit.”
- Scroll to the bottom of the site page and choose subreddits to display the Search Subreddits page. Do not use the Search field on the home page because that will display messages and comments as well.
- Enter the topic you want to search for and press your Enter key. A list of related subreddits appears.
- Scroll through the listings to locate an appropriate subreddit. You may need to click Next at the bottom of the page to see all the information.
- Click the name of the subreddit you want to visit. Its home page appears.
- Confirm that this is a subreddit you can use by looking at the number of readers, which are listed on the upper right side, under the Search box. A thousand readers or more is an acceptable number, although you may prefer lower numbers for obscure topics.
- View the list of links on the left side to see if your contribution is appropriate for this subreddit.
4. Integrate yourself into the subreddit community.
One of the way Reddit judges if you are a spammer is by examining the number of links you post from one site, such as your blog. yours is not a known site such as CNN or YouTube, and it has too many links from you, it marks you as a spammer. To avoid this designation, you need to post links from a variety of sites. The exact ratio of other sites needed for every link to your site is unknown. But the more other sites you link to, the better because you become a more useful member of the community.
Many of the subreddits will examine your posting history on the entire Reddit site to determine if you are a spammer. To avoid this, you can post different links not just on your subreddit of interest, but others that are unrelated to your topic.
For the continuation of this article, with information on how to post links, see Part II of Increase Website Traffic by Posting Links on Reddit.

Good luck, molometer, be sure and let us know how you do. But also read parts I and II of this series, so you get the best use out of it.
One of you followers shared this and I ran across it in my feed. Thanks for sharing this. I haven't used reddit before so this has been useful for learning more!
I am always interested in boosting traffic and gaining subscribers/followers. This is a very intriguing hub and I am bookmarking it to refer to and will give it a try!
Thank you for sharing this Sir! This would definitely help long time hubbers and newbies alike. :D
Thank you for this. I have heard of reddit but hadn't investigated further. I'm all for trying out new techniques for increasing traffic, so will sign up.
This article of your gives lot information about website traffic.
I really like the part about the "subreddits" - I've been posting on reddit, but so far no traffic to my sites. This is why. *Thank you* Keep posting these informative hubs! I'm gobbling them up! :) Shared, voted and I put it on reddit. :D
What a wonderful idea. Since I'm new on this writing site, I find this very useful. You are a value to the community. Thanks for sharing. Voted Up.
I was having fantastic luck around Christmas with Reddit. Now every time I go to post something I get a message that I am posting too many links and to try again in an hour. I have been getting this message for 2 weeks or more now. If anyone knows why, I'd love to know! Thanks for the great Info here!
Thank you all for continuing to support this. Just got another 4,000 hits on a different article in less than a day, so Reddit does work. But use it judiciously or you'll get banned.
This is grat information. I'm off to using it right away!
Thanks for sharing!
Voted up. It's a new learning for me.
Thank you for this article, too. So much to remember.........I'm a little confused, but I'm willing to work through it!
Thank you all for visiting. If you have any questions, ExoticHippieQueen, don't be afraid to ask.
Yep, I was a spammer because I was posting almost exclusively from Hub Pages. I can still post a few things at a time, though. :-)
Well, you'll just have to wait for my upcoming hub about spamming and Reddit. Thanks for stopping by.
Oh no, are you going to make an example of me? LOL
Seems you beat me to it by posting a comment on that hub. Thanks for visiting.
Good ideas with a great start for Reddit. Maybe they thought I was a Reddit spammer though my account has been re-activated. Voted up.
Fantastic, will be following this through, thanks so much for the easy step by step instructions!
Keep the links sparse, and you'll find it's worth the effort. Thanks for stopping by.
Thanks for the info. I've used Reddit a couple of times - but just dropped the URL to the front screen. I'll try using the this way from now on.
I hope you read Part II as well. Thanks for stopping by.
Really want to thank you again for a great hub.
This is a great hub with excellent advice. I just found a subreddit to post a link to my hub on self-publishing with Kindle, and it's already going up in views. Thanks for SHARING this!
Thank you both for stopping by.
Good job, alocsin. Moving on to part 2.
Thanks for this info.
Great information. I too am moving on to part 2
I did followed instructions, Guess what nothing happened after 20 hours but I am not disheartened moving to second part lets see......
Thanks for the information.
Read all the parts Zainnisar -- especially the part about my being banned. I don't want that to happen. Not all your postings will garner a ton of hits. It requires slow experimentation.
Thank you for sharing with us, it was indeed very useful...
I liked this article a lot. Good info. I signed up and used subreddits as you suggested. Hope to see some good traffic.
Thanks.
Just another reason why reddit is awesome.
I saw this article last night, signed up for Reddit and posted one of my articles. This morning, a HUGE traffic increase. WOW. Thanks!!!!
I'm glad you found this useful. But be sure to read all parts of my Reddit hubs, because the other articles have warnings as well.
Some really good and new tips for me. These will definitely bring some more traffic for me and hence some more business as well :)
This is good info to know. I decided to experiment after reading your "0 to 3,000 page views" hub and, after joining, posted a link on Reddit to one of my crochet hubs in the "crochet" subredit. My page views jumped from 23 to 104 in a few hours. I also commented on several crochet articles, I guess you would call them (still not that familiar with the site) to start participating in the crochet community there.
But it's also good to know how not to be perceived as a spammer, so I will be following the advice you give here about the best way to use Reddit. Thanks for sharing and congrats on your success. Rated up and (very) useful.
Thanks for the tips. I have used Reddit in the past, but the no changes were observed regarding traffic to my hubs. I was submitting the links at the main page. Will try your subreddit technique and post the results here. Voted up-useful
Let me know how it goes. Submitting it just to the main page means it won't ever get noticed.
This is a very useful Hub, I will give Reddit a try. Thank you.
You're welcome. Be sure to read all the parts about Reddit though, especially my hub about Avoiding a Ban.
The rules for avoiding a ban on Reddit also apply to other sites with similar models such as Digg and Stumbleupon.
Thanks for a very informative hub! I just learned something new from you. I will give it a try. Voted up and very useful.
Good guide for a reddit newb.
This is an excellent guide like many of your hubs. Congratulations on having the #1 hub on hubpages!
This is a great hub! I'm not convinced Reddit likes me at all, yet, but if it helps someone else, I'm SHARING!
I have not had much luck with reddit but will give it another try. Thanks, alocsin for yet another very helpful hub:)
very informative and knowledgeable hub. I like that type of hub.
Thanks for posting this informative hub.
I just registered. Thanks to you!
Thanks for the info. I got huge traffic at first with my blog by using Reddit. I didn't realize it but after posting my blog again a couple times they noted it as spam. I haven't really been able to recover. Reddit is very strict about submitting your own stuff. Just FYI. Thanks
Wowie! I'm trying this right away. Thanks, alocsin!
I really appreciate you sharing this information. I subscribed to Reddit last night submitting two Hubs and 24 hours later I have received over 450 hits! I hope it continues.
Have you got any more suggestions?
Absolutely, Casey. Though I must say, I'm getting far better results from Reddit than I am from either Digg or Stumbleupon.
The site is pickier than most, but negotiable. The rewards are great though.
Be sure and read all my Reddit hubs, especially the one on avoiding a ban. Thanks for stopping by.
Glad to hear it, Vinaya. I think you've already read all the hubs, especially the one on avoiding the Reddit ban. Let me know how it goes.
Yes, you have to be very careful kelleyward. Have you read my hub on Avoiding a Ban from Reddit? I suffered from one as well but was able to recover, once I discovered their guidelines. Sorry to hear this happened to you.
Thanks. But be sure to read all parts of my Reddit info, including the one on Avoiding a Ban. Let me know how it goes.
Congrats, I'm happy that it's worked out. Read all the parts of my reddit article, especially the one about Avoiding the Ban. Just go slowly and participate in the Reddit community with links to non-HubPages sites, and comments on other links. The effort is well worth the reward.
What is the subreddit name used to submit to the the general front page, all I see is specific subreddits?
Just reddit.com. But be careful about posting there -- you're not going to get any traffic from it because it will be buried under new posts. Try to find a specific subreddit instead.
I am learning from you about reddit and appreciate the advice. Still have part 2 to go before I venture into this. Thanks! Up and useful votes.
It's good you're taking it slow, Peggy. Be sure and read about the Ban article as well.
Great and helpful Hub Alocsin, this is something I am definitely going to try out. I think I might already be a member of Reddit but have never really bothered to look into it more deeply. Now, thanks to you I will give it a shot and see how it goes.
Before you do, Magdelen, be sure to read all parts of this info, especially the one on Avoiding a Ban. Good luck!
Very informative hub. I will definitely read rest of your hubs. Keep writing.
Thank you Mala. I think you'll find they all have necessary information.
reddit is a good social media site wherein you can gain more traffic for your site. Thank you so much and I will find time to try your recommendations.
I am clicking on subreditts but it is not displaying search subreddits page. Also as I have written articles related to health, can you please suggest me where to post my links.
It depends on the article. But you can try http://www.reddit.com/r/health, but see first if those are related to your articles.
Are you clicking on the "subreddits" link at the bottom of the site. It should produce this page: http://www.reddit.com/reddits/
The search box is near the top on the left side, right under the "reddit" title and log.
Thanks for writing this informative hub. I will probably have to read part II to learn even more about reddit.
The link http://www.reddit.com/r/health is not showing any information. Also, I did not find any subreddit on health topics. Does this mean that I cannot submit my health related links in reddit. I think my topics are not suitable for science subreddits. Are there any other categories. I have also posted my question on the forum.
I'm not sure why it's not showing for you Mala. I can see them here and about 20 health subreddits. Perhaps they are blocked for your country. I know that certain websites block content for certain countries. You might try contacting your service provider and ask why you can't see any information on that subreddit.
Hey, brother, I will try this out. You know I am remedial about this stuff. Thanks for your willingness to help out a lame-o.
Meanwhile, I have a ton of artwork to crank out. So at least I won't starve while I am learning.
Thanks for your reply alocsin. I will check it out.
Be sure and check out Part II, and the article on Avoiding a Ban, WD Curry. Thanks for stopping by.
Thanks once more, Alocsin. First I checked into Reddit, and tread lightly, so I was allowed to submit. Now with expert advice from here, I checked it out and my other questions are also answered. I will practice some more before I read the next Hub. Voted up -useful and interesting and shared.
I am going to try this out. Thanks for the tip.
great article thanks
I don't use Reddit much, but you got me thinking that I need to apply this to my Stumbleupon account. Thank you for sharing this.
Reddit can be a very good source of traffic, but their user base is very knowledgeable and will not be fooled. Much smarter than many other social media sites.
Very true, valuestreaming. On one of my submissions, the redditers spent a lot of time analyzing the stats.
Reddit is surely one of the best social bookmarking site .... Even digg and stumbleupon are great alternatives ....Thanks for the info .... Keep the good work up .....
Excellent hub. I appreciate you for this Valuable tips. I am in a hurry to move the second part.Thank you.
Honestly i utterly failed in getting any traffic from Reddit. Good hub and well written, will follow what you've written and give one more try.
Just be careful, dilipchandra12, and be sure to read all three Reddit hubs. You don't want to get banned.
Quite elaborate. Looking forward to reading through part 2. Thanks for the share.
Hey alocsin, lots of good advice, so gave it a try, but no comments/traffic on my one fat cat hub posting :( Thought I'd just post one hub so I wouldn't get banned. What did i do wrong? Doesn't anyone like fat cats any more?! Also, so many of the subreddits just seemed to be pictures (imgur), no text...confused. Any suggestions? Thanks!
You really have to find the right hub. There are subreddits that seem to be primarily pictures. In that case, I wouldn't bother posting any text there, because it would be unpopular.
Oh OK, thanks so much for the reply! This makes sense. I will be more selective with where and what to post in future. Thanks!
Great tips! That's good info for someone like me who is just getting started. Voted up!
Nicely explained. I have tried reddit several time and received huge traffic. But such traffic is good for nothing. Organic traffic is BEST.
I particularly use Digg. I found that I've had pretty good luck with them and can digg other stories as well while I am there. But I guess that is just me though.
Hai, very informative . I voted up . And bookmarked for reading again . Thamks a lot.
Great tips and advice. voted up.
ah, I've never heard of Reddit until now - thanks so much!
I'll definitely try this out.
Max
Thanks for this information alocsin, I was wondering how to increase traffic. I will definately check this out voted up and bookmarked if I can find the bookmark it's been moved?
Reddit and Digg are two of the most active social bookmark sites. A quality share will always get appreciation and traffic.
Awesome hub, I'm a little confused. I just registered, you say to go to the bottom and click on subreddits, which I did. I typed in 'jaw surgery diet', relevant to my latest hub. All that came up was some different peoples articles they have written-not a jaw surgery category. Am I doing something wrong? Great hub!! I'll read thru it again, maybe I'm missing something.
Don't forget, The Engineer, HubPages gives earnings based on impressions, so Reddit views equals more money on HubPages.
Try reducing your search term, emilybee. I think jaw surgery is too narrow a focus. But surgery or medicine might get you some hits.
Very useful hub. I'm just beginning my exploration of this new world of online writing, so this information will be most helpful. I'll certainly read the rest you have on reddit.
Thanks for this hub. I did not know about reddit before this hub.
Alocsin, Thanks so much for such a great series of hubs! I'm finally diving into Hubpages, and I was feeling lost when it came to attracting traffic. This will help immensely! I read each hub twice and got a little distracted with some of your other hubs. You're gonna teach me a lot, I can already tell.
Thanks BonnyC. I'm glad this was helpful.
Some more evidence, today a Hub of mine went from 10 hits to 68 hits. I didn't do anything, but someone must have put a link to readit, because all of those extra hits came from there. Be interesting to see how the next few days look. Most of those hits came in about an hour.
Congrats, tmbridgeland. Even better that the posting came from somebody else who liked your hub.
I am using reddit but not getting much traffic from it, I think I was lacking in some where, thanks for the tips will try out the above methods...
So many pros and cons to these sights. Thanks for posting your experience and tips on Reddit. Will definitely be reading your Part 2 and Lessons. Thanks, too, for helpful replies to comments. One sign of a good hub is that it generates informative comments!

Excellent work Alocsin,
Every site is different, in the way they operate. It would take years to figure them all out ourselves.
You have saved us all a lot of time.
I have posted a few hubs and not been impressed with traffic, but you have found the key to this particular site and shared it.
Thank you, I will give this site another go.
Voted up and shared, thank you and well done.
