The Highest-Paid Hubbers Make $650 to $3,800 per Month: Learning from their Stats - Part 2, Conclusions

This is part 2 of a series. Please read Part 1, Big Money, so you can understand this information thoroughly. Otherwise, much of it may not make sense.

Hubs

One of the big differences among the top hubbers is the number of hubs they’ve written. Susana S has only 96 hubs and yet earns $850 a month from them. Kathryn Vercillo boasts the greatest number of hubs at 1,123 and is the second highest earner at $1,500. Marye Audent, the most successful hubber with $3,800 a month, has 742 hubs. Clearly, you can succeed with a lot of hubs or just a few

I’ve performed a few calculations to show some interesting information about the hubs. The following names are arranged in alphabetical order by first letter to make hubbers

Views per Hub

Dividing the number of views per day by the number of hubs produces the Views per Hub (per Day) column. This shows how much traffic each of a hubber’s articles attracts.

  1. Blake Flannery boasts hubs that attract more than four times the traffic of the next closest writter. Each of his hubs gets an average of 209 views per day. His total monthly income is slightly less than average for this group.
  2. Relache is next with 45 views per hub per day. Her total income is near the bottom.
  3. Susana S has 42 views per hub per day. Her total income is equal to that of Relache.

Earnings per View

Another way to measure earning power is to divide the monthly income to get the earnings per day, and then divide that result to produce the $ per View (per Day) column.

  1. Top hubber Marye Audet makes the most earnings at $0.01 per view.
  2. Habee, our only 100 HubScore hubber, is next at $0.008 per view.
  3. Susan S, who also gets one of the highest earnings per hub, gets $0.007 per view.

Earnings per Hub

Dividing the monthly income by the number of hubs produces the $ per Hub column, which I think measures the earning power of each hub.

  1. Blake Flannery rises to the top of the list with each of his hubs worth an average of $9.55 per month. He has to do the least amount of writing to earn the most money.
  2. With fewer hubs than Blake, Susana S made her hubs the second most valuable at $8.85 each per month.
  3. Biggest income earner Marye Audet does slightly better than the average $4.02 per hub. She earns $5.12 for each of her hubs.

Types of Hubs

The types of subjects these top hubbers write about cover a wide range. Presumably, they only write about things they enjoy and have some knowledge about. The following list includes links to the hubbers’ profile pages, so you can find out for yourself what specialties cover.

  • Mary Audet focuses on home restoration and homesteading. Her page includes indexes to her thousands of hubs. She also writes hubs that do nothing but organize her other hubs. This makes it easy for her fans to find their favorite topics.
  • Kathryn Vercillo writes on business, computers and alternative medicine. Many of her hubs appeal more to men, who are the main users of the Internet. In contrast, Mary Audet’s efforts focus on the interests of women, who are the main users of hubpages. For more information on audience types, read my hub entitled Who Reads HubPages? Audience Stats to Increase Your Traffic and Maximize Your Hubs.
  • Blake Flannery concentrates on jobs, employment and music. He also has a series of hubs about birthday wishes at different ages. I suspect this unique niche gets searched for a lot on Google.
  • Susana S has the fewest hubs and says she writes on a variety of subjects. Her consistent earnings are all the more remarkable considering that with one exception, she wrote all her articles over a year ago. Many of her writings are product-related with a strong marketing slant. I suspect much of her income comes from sales at Amazon. If you’re interested in making your money that way, you need to read her hubs to discover what excellent SEO writing for sales is all about.

Conclusions

So, how can we apply all these statistics, plus looking at the to increasing our earnings.

  • Get a ton of followers. Having at least 2,000 is a good start.
  • Increase your total page views to at least 4,000 per day. Until you reach that threshold, you won’t be making much.
  • The number of hubs don’t matter. You can have about 100 hubs that you market well, or you can go for quantity with at least 700 hubs that you don’t market as well. If you want some information on marketing your hubs, check out my links below.
  • Find a profitable niche. There’s no one subject that makes money. Find something profitable that you enjoy writing about and then spin that knowledge into many different articles.

I agree that the number of followers that you have makes a difference. Even though they won't all read your hubs every time that you publish one, it is obvious that there is more potential for others to view them, especially until google indexes them.

I'm sure that one could do well in other areas, but if you jot down what everyone says they write about, you see a lot of this: food, cooking, home. This tells me that although I most enjoy writing humor, that might not bring home the bacon. Of course, four years from now I could be the one that makes a lot of money from humor stories. But it's more likely that I'll do well with the aforementioned topics. this is a nice analysis, Aurelio. Thanks for doing the heavy lifting.

Aurelio, you have analysed the whole issue of earnings very thoroughly. I think it can be said safely that though the number of hubs do make a difference to the earnings it is probably the niche that counts a lot looking at the earnings of hubber Blake Flannery. His income per hub is extremely high. I think his niche maybe, is what people are searching for everywhere and this is gaining him super high views which are resulting in more clicks.

It is very true that marketing of hubs is extremely important to get more readers and eventually make money.

Thanks for this wonderful hub. I am bookmarking both parts of this hub for further study.

Thanks for SHARING.

Awesome hub Alocsin. I think the key is time for many. I heard a while ago that it can take 6-12 months for a hub to reach its maximum search engine traffic, as it gets respect for age and interest. However, your facts also backup something I believe to be true, that you don't really start earning well until you exceed 100 hubs. This amount of content is then LOVED by search engines and your 'authority' increases a lot!

SOCIALLY SHARED, up, interesting and awesome!

I really enjoyed reading your Part I and Part II. I liked comparing the stats. But I think relache's stats for earnings are for more than just her "relache" account, and I'd guess the same would be true for some of the others. So the hub counts would be more than reflected.

Pcunix profile image

Pcunix Level 7 Commenter 3 months ago

I think there is a big difference between "getting" a bunch of followers and having a bunch of followers.

The first implies that you might offer some incentive like following back. Those followers will do nothing for you even if you had millions.

A high percentage of unsolicited followers are useless for similar reasons - they may follow in hopes that you will follow them, for example. But some percentage will be readers, so the more you acquire, the more chance of real visits.

Glad to hear you're making some money, CasyLu1981. If you keep writing, the earnings should go up.

That's amazing, mary615. Do you mind sharing the name of that hubber?

Its a great information here. I think a lot also depends on the way one promote his hubs. But are these incomes purely from Hubpages? or it is sum total of other sites of hubbers as well.

We'll need to find him, mary615 ;)

chaturrajneesh, I think this is solely from HubPages.

This is what I don't get: Out of over 200,000 published Hubbers, only 6 are making more than $1,000 a month writing on HubPages? I suspect (hope) that there are more $1,000-a-month-writers than your list indicates. Anamikas, sunseven, pattyinglishms, soni2006 – just to name a few – each have about 1% of total HubPages traffic.

Writer Fox, these are only the ones who've chosen to publicize their earnings. Quite a few have decided not to.

Great article. I've noticed after writing here for a year that my views have steadily increased, but I still have a long way to go to catch the top writers.

Thanks for this nice hub. Like you have already discussed above, you don't need tons of hubpages to make decent money. What you need however is quality and traffic.

I have just 10 pages and consistently make around $70+ monthly. That is sure to go up if I spend more time writing a few more.

That is fantastic, hhelen. But how do you do it? How do you make that much money with only 10 hubs? Maybe you should write a hub about that.
